Jennie's Top Ten

Local priorities based on deep consultation with community members.

  1. Securing a joint feasibility study for the rebuild of Secord Elementary School and Secord Community Centre, in collaboration with the Toronto District School Board.

  2. Completing repairs at 500 Dawes Rd and other problem buildings.

  3. Protecting and enhancing our waterfront by continuing to say NO to jets at Billy Bishop, working with community members to develop better responses to public disturbances, and installing lighting along the Martin Goodman Waterfront Trail.

  4. Make it easier to set up and maintain your small business on our neighbourhoods’ main streets and reducing the number of vacant storefronts through block-by-block level data collection and collaborating with Business Improvement Areas (BIAs).

  5. Speeding up streetcars to allow greater access to downtown for Beaches residents by giving streetcars more transit signal priority, reducing left turns on routes, and adjusting parking and patio placement.

  6. Implementing a ward-wide safer streets plan through street redesigns, adding crosswalks and upgrading pedestrian infrastructure to meet modern accessibility standards.

  7. Expanding our existing Ravine Strategy to include our beloved Glen Stewart ravine and Taylor Creek so we can better protect our natural spaces for all to enjoy.

  8. Converting the Coxwell-Danforth Streetcar barns project into a community-led development with mixed income housing, integrated services from the Toronto Public Library and other local service providers, and guaranteed space for community programming.

  9. Filling in the missed connections in our cycling network across BEY and securing funding to upgrade existing lanes with permanent infrastructure.

  10. Securing funding to add year round accessible washroom facilities in parks in Beaches-East York.
